General Position Summary

The [TBD] Manager, Accounting is responsible for leading, managing, and conducting all financial accounting, tax, finance, and budget activities across Osaka Gas USA (OGUSA) and its affiliated companies.

 

The [TBD] Manager, Accounting is responsible for collaborating and supporting internal team members and departments, affiliated companies, and Osaka Gas (OG) headquarters by facilitating with routine and non-routine work related to accounting, tax, and the budgets of the OGUSA Group. The [TBD] Manager, Accounting communicates with and works closely with outsourced companies and external advisers such as CPA/Tax specialists and banks to resolve issues while providing necessary consideration of accounting, tax, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to ensure the company’s continued improvement and growth.  Additionally, the [TBD] Manager, Accounting is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory matters.


Essential Job Functions

Accounting for Consolidated Financial Statements

‐ Manage and conduct all accounting functions related to OGUSA Consolidation.

‐ Work closely with and provide accounting/tax/finance support to Accounting & Finance team members in Houston and the Power Business team members in NY for accurate completion of the day-to-day functions of the Finance & Accounting Department, subsidiaries, OG headquarters, and outsourced companies.

  • Oversee, monitor, coordinate, and/or perform the day-to-day, week-to-week, and month-to-month duties
  • Check and support the work conducted by the Accounting & Finance team members, subsidiaries, contractors, and outsourced companies
  • Perform monthly/quarterly/year-end accounting procedures
  • Make necessary journal entries and prepare financial reports, satisfying reporting schedules and regulatory filing deadlines

‐ Comply with organizational and governmental policies and procedures

‐ Create and analyze a summary of financial results and provide the results to management  

‐ Coordinate and manage external and internal audits

‐ Manage budgets and forecasts for P/L, B/S and C/F

‐ Develop and implement accounting policies, accounting methods, and procedure manuals

‐ Manage and maintain DIVA systems; communicate with related departments, OG headquarters, and IT vendors 

‐ Collaborate with external advisers and internal departments to resolve issues

‐ Research and respond to accounting inquiries from supervisors and/or OG headquarters

- Consider necessary technical accounting topics such as HLBV, tax equity, lease accounting, and hedge accounting to ensure that all financial records are properly documented and maintained.

Create explanatory materials for accounting issues and report to supervisors, management, and related departments, including OG headquarters

- Recommend enhancements to general accounting activities for effective and efficient operations

Financial Reporting

‐ Manage monthly and quarterly financial statements (BS/PL/CF) and other OGUSA group reports

‐ Conduct monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements in accordance with US &

  Japanese GAAP

- Prepare financial reports for OG headquarters, including financial data input into the

consolidated accounting reporting system (DIVA)

- Analyze and report all relevant financial information (incl. KPI) to OGUSA management, the NY Power team, OG headquarters, and other departments

Tax-Related & Compliance Functions

‐ Manage and conduct all tax functions related to OGUSA group

- Lead, manage, and conduct tax provisions for OGUSA Consolidation

‐ Work closely with outside accounting firms, provide backup support to Finance & Accounting team members as needed to compute taxes owed in the preparation of tax returns, ensure payment processing, and reporting or other tax requirements and regulations

‐ Manage, update, and report the company’s tax position periodically

‐ Lead, manage, and conduct cross-border tax topics; communicate with related departments, OG headquarters, contractors, and outsourced companies

‐ Consider necessary tax considerations to ensure smooth transactions and compliance

‐ Lead, manage, and prepare external tax audits by tax authorities

Finance

‐ Lead, manage, and conduct all finance functions related to OGUSA group

‐ Maintain financial security by following internal controls, implementing policies and

  procedures

Due Diligence

‐ Lead, manage, and conduct all due diligence studies from each business and

consolidated perspective.

‐ Consider and coordinate technical accounting considerations such as purchase price allocation (PPA), VIE analysis, derivative, HLBV, and hedge accounting to ensure smooth transactions

‐ Consider and coordinate tax considerations such as FIRPTA analysis and section 382, if any

‐ Prepare for creating explanatory materials of the above consideration and report to your supervisor, Management, and related departments, including OG headquarters

Forecast and Budget-Related Functions

‐ Lead, manage, and conduct budgets and forecasts of PL/BS/CF and KPI for OGUSA consolidation and sub-business units (SBU), working with the Planning team, business departments, and other related departments

- Provide analysis and report to OGUSA management

Requirements

Education

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other closely related field
‐ CPA is a plus

Experience

- 8+ years of accounting and tax experience (in the energy industry, a plus)

‐ Experience in managing year-end audits conducted by audit firms

‐ Experience in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

- 5+ years’ experience in a public entity or accounting firm is a plus 

- Experience in preparing federal and state tax returns is a plus

‐ Experience developing business processes and accounting best practices is a plus

‐ Experience with ERP systems is a plus

Skills

- Ability to write, read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, forms and instructions in English

‐ Ability to effectively deliver presentations to related members such as management, employees, subsidiaries, contractors, and outsourced companies in English

‐ Ability to effectively deliver presentations to OG headquarters in Japanese

‐ Proficient in MS 365 including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to design custom Excel reports as necessary

‐ Ability to work in a multicultural business environment, effectively communicate with other team members and all levels of the organization

‐ Time management skills and ability to simultaneously coordinate multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment

Physical

-      Typical office environment, with normal office temperature and noise levels.

-      Job may require extended sitting or standing, and use of standard office equipment.

-      Minimal lifting less than 15 lbs.
